The West Africa Regional Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights supports the Club Citizenship and Human Rights of the secondary school called “The martyrs of Thiaroye”

The secondary school called" The martyrs of Thiaroye" has created, in December 2014, a club: "Citizenship and Human Rights". II has 20 members, chosen for their sensitivity to the rights of man, who meet each week.

Indeed, many young girls in Senegal are today confronted with violence in the school or at home, as well as to the high risk of early pregnancy. The Club has provided an important space to talk about these issues, access to the information, aid, and a network of support - which helps these young girls to learn more about their rights and allows them to stay in school. The Club therefore organized information sessions and of education by the drawing, movie projections and thematic debates. It has become an example for the other schools wishing to participate in the campaign. A new club dedicated to the environment has even been created at the beginning of this year. The West Africa Regional office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights supported the Club financially and technically since its creation and provided tools to promote the commitment of the members in the education of their members on the Human rights questions. The UN Office also works to raise awareness of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations, in particular those related to access to education for all.
